Branding and Strategic Marketing
In 2006 the University of Arizona began to reimagine Biosphere 2, one of world’s most spectacular destinations, as a re-energized scientific facility dedicated to the research and understanding of global environmental issues.
And with research, education, and outreach as key elements of its new mission, Biosphere 2 would continue to serve as a major regional tourism attraction generating income to support its role as a laboratory for earth science studies.
Godat Design has served the Biosphere 2 administrative team since 2007, helping optimize the organization’s structure, increase visitor attendance and advance its public messaging goals. The new tagline “Where Science Lives” helped anchor the facility’s new web site, collateral, signage, exhibit design, and advertising – all created in support of Biosphere 2’s brand relaunch as a world-class research facility.
Since 2006, the urgency of global climate change has driven a new agenda — driving the University of Arizona focus on new ways Biosphere 2 can leverage UA’s world-class research programs as a source of scientific discovery. This vision of collaboration and “openness” helped guide Godat Design’s development of the new Biosphere 2 brand, including the creation of a global icon based on a dynamic image of our planet.
Today, Biosphere 2 remains at the nexus of a global quest to understand sustainable functioning of Earth’s ecosystems. To support Biosphere 2’s tourism goals and enhance its educational outreach efforts, Godat Design works closely with UA education, marketing and management teams to promote the facility to both the public as well as targeted academic and research organizations.
Godat Design’s contributions to signage, wayfinding, exhibitions, multimedia and visitor experience have also begun to redirect the public’s understanding of the vital work underway at Biosphere 2.
